Former Sheffield United utility player Katie Anderson has joined Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer according to reports on the Lancashire club’s official website.
The 23-year-old Bolton-born player has signed a contract with Blackburn Rovers following a successful spell training with the club.
Anderson joined former club Sheffield United on a dual registration basis from FA Women’s National League North side Derby County in February but she struggled for game time during her stay at The Technique Stadium, being named as an unused substitute on just three occasions for FA Women’s Championship matches.
Anderson can operate either in defence or midfield. She was announced as a midfielder by former club Sheffield United but Blackburn Rovers have indicated that they may primarily use the player as a defender after giving her the number three shirt.
Rovers announced the signing of Anderson prior to today’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against London City Lionesses at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium. The player was not named in Gemma Donnelly’s squad as Rovers went on to lose the match 2-1 after conceding a 90th-minute goal.
Donnelly could offer Anderson her debut next weekend when Rovers make the long trip to The Dripping Pan to face Lewes.
