Sunderland will be looking to continue their ascent up the FA Women’s Championship table when they make the trip to the Robins’ High Performance Centre to face Bristol City this afternoon.
The Wearsiders went into the weekend in third position after an unbeaten start to the season that has seen them win two games and draw twice, though manager Melanie Reay insisted last week that their aim is still just to stay in the division.
Part of The Lady Black Cats’ impressive form is down to defensive solidity and shared goalscoring abilities amongst the side with four different players contributing to their five goals scored so far.
Bristol City on the other hand will be looking for a return to their goalscoring ways against Sunderland. Despite scoring a combined total of five goals in their first two games, The Robins have failed to find the back of the net since then. It should be noted that Sunderland have conceded the fewest goals in the league so far, so this may prove to be difficult for Lauren Smith’s side.
The last meeting between these two sides took place back in 2018, when both competed in the FA Women’s Super League. Bristol City emerged victorious that day with a 2-1 away victory coming courtesy of first half goals of Millie Farrow and Lauren Hemp.
The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Bristol City and Sunderland kicks-off at 3pm.
