Bristol City boss Smith agrees three-year contract

Bristol City’s interim head coach Lauren Smith has signed a permanent three-year contract with the club according to reports on The Robins’ official website.

Smith signed a one-year contract with Bristol City in the summer to cover for manager Tanya Oxtoby’s extended maternity leave, however, the Australian recently opted to leave the club and has since taken up an assistant coach role with Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea.

In her short time with Bristol City, interim boss Smith has built virtually a new squad following the club’s relegation from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in May. The club’s hierarchy have seemingly been impressed by her work with Smith agreeing a three-year permanent stay at the Robins’ High Performance Centre.

After signing her new deal, Smith said “I’m really pleased to be able to move on from what we’ve started and build towards the future with a long-term process in mind. I’m really thankful to the club and the board for giving me this opportunity.

“The players and staff we have brought in have been excellent. Week-in, week-out they’re getting better, they’re making sure we build towards a better future and their attitude to do that has been outstanding.”

Bristol City have collected seven points from their opening five FA Women’s Championship fixtures this season. The Robins continue the season at Charlton Athletic on Sunday.
