Manchester United forward Ella Toone says that she will celebrate if she scores against former club Manchester City this weekend.
The Manchester rivals meet at the Leigh Sports Village on Saturday afternoon in a game which will see Toone come up against her former side.
Toone made five Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances for The Cityzens prior to her move to current club Manchester United in 2018. The player has admitted that if she does net against her former employers this weekend, she will not shy away from celebrating.
“I’m going mad,” Toone told FAWSL Full-Time when discussing her potential reaction should she score in the Manchester derby. “This is my team now, this is my fourth season at Manchester United and we want to celebrate every goal as a team.
“I am really excited to play against them. Obviously, they helped me a lot in my career when I was there but I love Manchester United, this is the team that I play for and we want to get three points at the weekend. No matter who scores, I am sure that we will all be celebrating.”
Toone has plenty of friends at Manchester City both from her time with the club and spending time with members of their squad whilst on international duty with England. The forward said that any friendships will be forgotten come kick-off on Saturday.
She said “I’ve got a lot of friends at Manchester City but I think when you step on the pitch, you’ve got no friends until after the final whistle has blown.
“We will go there, work hard and battle it out because it always is (a battle) and hopefully we will come away with the three points.”
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Manchester City kicks-off at 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon and will be broadcast live on BBC One.
