‘It was a fair result’ – Sheffield United boss Redfearn has no complaints over defeat to Liverpool

Sheffield United head coach Neil Redfearn had no complaints about the result as his side were defeated 2-0 by Liverpool at Bramall Lane this afternoon.

First half goals from Charlotte Wardlaw and Leanne Kiernan helped the visitors to victory in-front of a record crowd for a Sheffield United home fixture of 4,100.

Liverpool were good value for the three points given their clinical finishing and Sheffield United boss Redfearn agreed that The Reds were the deserved winners when speaking after the match.

“It was a fair result if I’m honest, I thought they were really good,” Redfearn said in the post-match press huddle. “I thought we struggled to come to terms with them at times. I thought that we stuck at it, we tried to compete with them.

“They moved the ball about really well and got the two goals but second half, we were much better, it was a much closer affair and they didn’t look as dangerous on the break. We had our moments but we just lacked that little bit of quality in the final third which is not like us.”

The biggest positive from a Sheffield United perspective was the crowd with the club recording a record attendance for a women’s fixture. Redfearn was complimentary about the spectators and highlighted the ‘one club’ mentality shown towards the women’s team.

“It was fantastic, they were an unbelievable crowd,” Redfearn said. “They were with us and were patient. They had obviously come to see us win, it wasn’t to be but I thought their backing was fantastic.

“It just shows you that every team in this football club is supported whether it is Sheffield United men, boys, ladies, it is supported as one club. The 4,000 fans are a real testament to that.”

Sheffield United are back in action on Thursday when they face Sunderland in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup at The Technique Stadium in Chesterfield.
