PREVIEW: Chelsea v Leicester City

Chelsea will be hoping to continue their climb up the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table when Leicester City are the visitors to Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

The Blues have bounced back from their opening day defeat to Arsenal with three wins on the spin in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and Emma Hayes’ side are beginning to build the kind of momentum which has helped them lift back-to-back league titles in the last two seasons.

Chelsea welcomed Norwegian international defender Maren Mjelde back to the squad against VfL Wolfsburg in midweek with the player having completed her recovery from a serious knee injury sustained in last season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup final. The only absentee will be summer signing Lauren James who is not yet fit to feature for her new club.

Leicester City boss Jonathan Morgan has faced a battle to field a full-strength side this season and he will again be without a number of players for the trip to Kingsmeadow. Abbi Grant, Connie Scofield, Lachante Paul and Sophie Barker remain out while Charlie Devlin has suffered a recurrence of her ankle injury. Shannon O’Brien is also doubtful due to an ankle problem.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Leicester City kicks-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon. The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League while fans can attend the game by purchasing their tickets here.
