Juventus v Chelsea – Stat Attack

Chelsea’s adventure in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League continues on Wednesday when they take on Juventus in Turin.

The Blues battled back from two goals down to draw 3-3 with VfL Wolfsburg at Kingsmeadow last week and Emma Hayes’ side need three points in Italy to really get their European campaign up and running.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the UEFA statistics surrounding the fixture. Here are four facts which relate to Chelsea’s group game against Juventus.

Chelsea have good memories of Italy

Chelsea’s only previous trip to Italy saw The Blues defeat Fiorentina 6-0 in a last-16 second leg tie back in 2018. Hayes’ side won the tie 7-0 on aggregate. Latest opponents Juventus are yet to face English opposition in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Juventus have the better record when it comes to clean sheets

Juventus have kept clean sheets in four of their five fixtures in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League including against Servette FCCF last time out. In contrast, Chelsea have managed just one shut-out in seven European ties, their 3-3 draw with VfL Wolfsburg last week highlighting some defensive frailties.

Pernille Harder set to hit 40th appearance

Chelsea forward Pernille Harder could make her 40th UEFA Women’s Champions League appearance against Juventus. The Danish international is yet to face the Italian side in her career.

Both clubs are second in their domestic leagues

After six games in Serie A, Juventus find themselves in second place in the table. Joe Montemurro’s side have won six out of six but have an inferior goal difference to league leaders Sassuolo. Chelsea are also occupying the runners-up position in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The Blues have won four out of five with their only defeat coming against Montemurro’s former club Arsenal.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group fixture between Juventus and Chelsea kicks-off at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
