PREVIEW: Liverpool v Aston Villa

Liverpool and Aston Villa get their respective FA Women’s Continental League Cup campaigns underway when they contest their opening group match at Prenton Park on Wednesday.

The Reds are flying high in the FA Women’s Championship table after winning their last three games while Aston Villa have made a solid start in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League, already recording as many wins in the new campaign as they did last term.

Liverpool boss Matt Beard will again be without Megan Campbell and Rianna Dean for the midweek contest. With no games in 17 days after the Villa game, Beard could opt to stick with the majority of the side which defeated Sheffield United 2-0 on Saturday. Should he opt to make any changes, the likes of Rhiannon Roberts, Missy Bo Kearns, Ashley Hodson, Meikayla Moore, Jade Bailey, Carla Humphrey and Georgia Walters are waiting for recalls.

Aston Villa travel to Merseyside after losing their last two games to Arsenal and Reading. Following the 3-0 loss to Reading on Sunday, Villa boss Carla Ward seems likely to freshen her side up with a few changes. Elisha N’Dow could be given a chance to impress in defence while Jodie Hutton, Olivia McLoughlin, Gemma Davison and Maris Ewers will also be hoping to be given starts. Australian forward Emily Gielnik has missed the last two matches and is again likely to be absent.

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture between Liverpool and Aston Villa kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
