Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that his side want the experience of playing in another Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley with fans present.
The Cityzens lifted the 2019/2020 trophy by defeating Everton 3-1 after extra-time but that game was played behind-closed-doors at the national stadium.
Chelsea stand in Manchester City’s way of reaching another Vitality Women’s FA Cup final with the pair set to contest a semi-final tie at The Academy Stadium this afternoon. When speaking in his pre-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Taylor said that Wembley needs fans in the stands.
“It was a fantastic experience for a lot of people last season being successful at Wembley but it felt a little bit empty with the stadium being empty,” Taylor said.
“It is a great incentive for us to try and get there again, we have experienced it with fans, we have experienced it without fans but football is nothing without supporters so it’s good to see everybody back.”
Manchester City are bidding to win a third consecutive Vitality Women’s FA Cup and Taylor went on to say that retaining the trophy acts as extra motivation for his team.
He said “We have had success in this competition and like any team which has had success, you don’t want to give it up, you want to make sure that you are there in the final again to give yourself the best possible chance of retaining it.
“We know that’s going to be really difficult against a good Chelsea team but we have got home advantage which we have got to try and use to our maximum.”
