PREVIEW: Sheffield United v Liverpool

Sheffield United and Liverpool will both be looking to record their first victory in this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group stage when the pair meet at The Technique Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Both sides drew their opening group game 1-1 after 90 minutes with Liverpool going on to defeat Aston Villa 5-4 on penalties and Sheffield United going down 4-2 to Sunderland via the same method.

Despite winning three of their first four FA Women’s Championship games, Sheffield United go into their latest fixture winless in their last four games in all competitions. Head coach Neil Redfearn fielded a strong side in the last group game and could do the same against Liverpool. Changes could be made to the XI which lost 5-1 at Bristol City at the weekend with Georgia Robert and Alethea Paul being players who are the most likely to come in.

Ellie Wilson and Rhema Lord-Mears remain sidelined while Fran Kitching, Ocean Rolandsen and Jess Clarke were notable absentees from the Sheffield United squad at Bristol City on Sunday.

Liverpool arrive in Derbyshire unbeaten since the opening day of the FA Women’s Championship season. Matt Beard’s side have won their last three league games while forward Leanne Kiernan netted six goals last month including strikes against Aston Villa in Liverpool’s last group game and against Sheffield United in a 2-0 win at Bramall Lane.

The Reds continue to be without goalkeeper Rylee Foster and striker Rianna Dean while loanee Charlotte Wardlaw missed the 2-0 victory over Lewes on Sunday.

The FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture between Sheffield United and Liverpool kicks-off at 7.30pm on Wednesday evening. Admission is available on the turnstiles.
