‘There is a lot of work to do to succeed’ – Everton boss Vasseur talks about challenges ahead

New Everton manager Jean-Luc Vasseur says that there is a lot of work to be done for the club’s long term project to succeed.

The Merseyside club are keen to be competing for silverware once again while they also have their eyes set upon qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the coming years.

Vasseur was appointed the club’s new manager last Friday and when speaking in his first press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, the former Lyon boss said that there is lots of hard work to be done at Everton if they are to achieve their goals.

“My main goal is to build the team, be better, progress and maybe to win more,” Vasseur said. “I only arrived a week ago, so it is not enough time to assess the full project.

“We want to improve the club as a collective and maybe the facilities, so there is a lot of work to be done for the project to succeed. We need time and we will need to be patient to build the right components for the club to succeed.

“My philosophy for the team is always to win but that is dependent upon talent, injuries and a lot of other things. I need patience to build a winning mission.”

Vasseur went on to speak about his vision for The Blue Girls which includes winning trophies, something which will certainly be music to the ears of Everton fans.

He added “My vision is to be ambitious, to help grow and improve the quality and stature of the team and the club.

“I like to play, I like to play to win football matches and to win titles, that is very important. I will share my vision with my staff and the players.”

Vasseur enjoyed a winning start to life as Everton manager with The Blues Girls defeating Leicester City 3-1 in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup at The Pirelli Stadium last night. The Frenchman takes charge of the club for his first Barclays FA Women’s Super League match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Walton Hall Park on Saturday.
