‘It was a real team effort’ – Kerr keen to share the plaudits with Chelsea teammates in Geneva

Chelsea forward Sam Kerr hailed the collective effort of the team after The Blues defeated Swiss club Servette FCCF 7-0 in their latest UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture in Geneva this evening.

Kerr netted two goals and assisted two others, resulting in her picking up the Player of the Match award following a deadly display from the English champions.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time after the match, Kerr said that while it was nice to make a personal impact in the game, the whole team deserved to take credit for the victory.

“As a striker, it is always nice to score, especially on a Champions League night,” Kerr said. “Goals don’t come easy but it was a real team effort and that was the most pleasing thing for me, to be a part of it.

“As a player, it is nice to come off the field feeling like we did everything possible to win the game. Tonight we did that and we can get on the plane with only positives to take from it.”

Kerr has started all three UEFA Women’s Champions League games this season for The Blues and she went on to say that she is loving every minute of the competition.

She added “I am enjoying them, every game in this group stage has been enjoyable for me.

“Tonight was an amazing atmosphere, in Italy it was an amazing atmosphere and back at Kingsmeadow it was amazing. I am enjoying every single one and I am just taking them as they come, they are special nights, everyone talks about these in Europe. Last year was a bit of a rollercoaster ride but this year, it has been really enjoyable, it’s great.”

Chelsea are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Manchester City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
