No less than seven players from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League have been nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award for 2021.
Chelsea dominate the English-based nominations with Magda Eriksson, Ji So-yun, Pernille Harder and Sam Kerr selected while Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema has also been included on the 13-player shortlist. Manchester City’s Lucy Bronze and Ellen White make up the seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League representatives, the former being the holder of The Best FIFA Women’s Player award for 2020.
The remaining six nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2021 award are Stina Blackstenius (BK Häcken), Aitana Bonmati (FC Barcelona), Caroline Graham Hansen (FC Barcelona), Jennifer Hermoso (FC Barcelona), Alexia Putellas (FC Barcelona) and Christine Sinclair (Portland Thorns).
Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has made the shortlist for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach award for 2021. She has been nominated alongside UEFA Women’s Champions League-winning boss Lluís Cortés, England head coach Sarina Wiegman, Olympic Gold winner Bev Priestman and Swedish national team head coach Peter Gerhardsson.
There are also Chelsea links to The Best Women’s Goalkeeper category with first choice keeper Ann-Katrin Berger being nominated alongside Blues legend Hedvig Lindahl. Christiane Endler (Lyon), Stephanie Labbé (Paris Saint-Germain) and Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars) make up the shortlist.
Fans will be able to vote for their favourites on fifa.com until midnight on 10 December 2021 while the winners will be revealed in a virtual awards ceremony on 17 January 2022.
