Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that his side are putting complete focus on Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City at Meadow Park.
The Gunners have a decisive UEFA Women’s Champions League match against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Wednesday but head coach Eidevall says that the club are putting that fixture to the back of their minds for now.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the Leicester City game, Eidevall said that the focus is completely on that fixture and that his team selection will not be impacted by the fact that The Gunners travel to Germany in midweek.
“I don’t think that we should look too far ahead,” Eidevall said. “The game on Sunday is really important for us, it is not about thinking ahead to Hoffenheim, it is about Leicester now.
“It is 100% Leicester and we will do everything in our power to put in as strong a performance as possible. After we do that, we can keep building to Hoffenheim but we need to get back to winning football matches again.”
Arsenal come up against a Leicester City side who are bottom of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table and without a point so far this season. Eidevall went on to say that The Foxes will not be underestimated by his side.
He said “You never know before you play a game whether it is the perfect game for you or not. We are definitely not underestimating Leicester, we know that they have a new manager and they have been close to taking points in many games that they have played before. They drew with Manchester United in the Conti Cup as well after the international break so they have definitely shown the qualities that they have as a team.
“Of course, it is better for us to play Sunday rather than Saturday but turnarounds are still tight so we need to be very good with our recoveries so that we are ready to go.”
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Arsenal and Leicester City kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football. Tickets for the match remain available by clicking here.
