Teenager Harries starting to show qualities says Reading boss Chambers

Reading teenager Emma Harries is really beginning to show her qualities in senior football according to manager Kelly Chambers.

After being on the fringes of the first team for a couple of years, Harries burst onto the scene last season and there are clear signs of further development this term.

November was a particularly impressive month for Harries who scored important goals for Reading in their 2-2 draw with West Ham United and in their 2-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion. The player was also on target for England Under-23s during the last international window.

Speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of this lunchtime’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Reading boss Chambers said that Harries is really showing what she is made of.

“We have had Emma since she was eight years old and I think that now we are really seeing what Emma Harries is about,” Chambers said.

“It has obviously taken her a little bit of time to adjust to Barclays FA Women’s Super League football and top level football but for her individually, what a month she has had scoring the goals that she has and the performances that she has put in and being able to start and score for England Under-23s.

“She’s full of confidence at the moment and long may it continue.”

While Harries is one of those players who have been on Reading’s books for several years, a number of new faces joined the club in the summer and those players have taken time to bed in. Manager Chambers went on to say that recent good results have come as a result of a successful transition period.

She said “It was a case that I had a big transition in the summer and it was always going to take a bit of time to gel and for players to get to know each other.

“We sat down as a group and highlighted this as a window where we could pick up points. We needed to, we put that pressure on ourselves and we looked at the games in November and we really highlighted that as a month where we could pick up points. Credit to the players and the staff who worked so hard to make sure that we did that, the players went out and delivered.”
