Sunday’s FA Women’s Championship fixture between London City Lionesses and Bristol City has been postponed due to COVID-19.
Bristol City announced the news in an update via their official website this afternoon. It has been reported that The Robins requested the postponement due to the high number of players and staff in self-isolation.
The game is the second to be postponed in the FA Women’s Championship this weekend due to the effects of the pandemic with Crystal Palace’s home fixture against Lewes having also fell foul of COVID-19. The Eagles are unable to field a team to fulfil the fixture.
Liverpool’s fixture against Charlton Athletic at Prenton Park was already postponed due to The Addicks having to contest a Vitality Women’s FA Cup third round tie at Gillingham therefore there are now just three weekend fixtures remaining in the second tier.
In the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, one game has been postponed so far with Manchester City unable to take on Reading at The Academy Stadium on Sunday. The Cityzens have been hit hard by COVID-19 in the last week and the decision was made to call their latest game off following discussions with The Football Association.
The season goes into a three-week winter break following the conclusion of the weekend’s matches.
