Chelsea will be hoping to bounce back from their midweek disappointment in the UEFA Women’s Champions League when West Ham United are the visitors to Kingsmeadow on Sunday.
The Blues were defeated 4-0 by VfL Wolfsburg at the AOK Stadion on Thursday as their European dreams came to an end for another season.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes expressed her concerns for the mental health of her players following that match with many anxious that COVID-19 could end their hopes of spending Christmas with their families. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger and midfielder Drew Spence have already tested positive and will be unavailable for selection for the West Ham United game while Blues boss Hayes was concerned that further positives could be recorded following the next round of PCR testing. Maren Mjelde and Lauren James remain unavailable due to non-COVID reasons.
West Ham United travel to Kingsmeadow on the back of securing qualification for the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. The Hammers look to be strong on squad numbers despite the recent increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the capital. Manager Olli Harder will again be without Adriana Leon and Maisy Barker through injury.
