Manchester United v Aston Villa – Stat Attack

Manchester United will be hoping to record a third consecutive victory in all competitions when they take on Aston Villa at The Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

The Red Devils have recorded impressive 2-0 victories over both Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton in the last week and they must now look to defeat an Aston Villa side who will aim to make life difficult for Marc Skinner’s side in Leigh.

Manchester United have won both FAWSL meetings to nil

Manchester United and Aston Villa have met twice in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to date with The Red Devils winning home and away last season without conceding a single goal. They were 2-0 winners at The Banks’s Stadium 12 months’ ago while they defeated Villa 3-0 in Leigh in March.

Villa have lost four out of four against The Red Devils

Aston Villa have lost their four league games against Manchester United, twice in the 2018/2019 FA Women’s Championship season and twice in the top flight last season. They have conceded 22 goals in total across those four games, failing to score themselves. It should be noted that 12 of those goals conceded came in the first meeting in September 2018.

Something has got to give

Manchester United are winless in three home matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, losing to Chelsea and Arsenal and drawing with Manchester City. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have lost five of their last six Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches, winning the other game away to rivals
Birmingham City last month.

Toone remains Manchester United’s biggest threat

Manchester United have scored five goals in home matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season with Ella Toone assisting four of them. Aston Villa’s greatest goalscoring threat could come from midfielder Remi Allen who has netted half of her side’s league goals this season.
