The 2021/2022 FA Women’s Continental League Cup final will be held at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium, The Football Association have this evening announced.
The 9,215-capacity venue on Plough Lane only opened late last year but the impressive arena has been selected by The Football Association to host one of women’s football’s top club competitions.
FAWSL Full-Time learnt of the news earlier this evening via an official press release from The Football Association.
AFC Wimbledon as a club have been keen to get behind the women’s game in recent months. The Cherry Red Records Stadium has hosted the women’s team this season with AFC Wimbledon registering a record attendance of 1,405 for their 7-1 Vitality Women’s FA Cup victory over Walton Casuals in October. With The Football Association keen to record a healthy attendance for the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final, The Cherry Red Records Stadium seems like a perfect venue.
Speaking following the announcement, Kelly Simmons, FA Director of The Women’s Professional Game, said “We are delighted to confirm The Cherry Red Records Stadium as the host of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final.
“We wanted a really intimate stadium that could potentially generate a really good atmosphere. We feel we have that in AFC Wimbledon and we are really looking forward to welcoming fans for this final, who I am sure will create a really good buzz within the stadium.”
The 2021/2022 FA Women’s Continental League Cup final is scheduled to take place on Saturday 5 March 2022 and will kick-off at 5.30pm. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
