UEFA Women’s Champions League draw – What do Arsenal need to know?

The draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League takes place at noon.

Just one Barclays FA Women’s Super League club remain in the competition, that being league leaders Arsenal. Manchester City were eliminated by Real Madrid in Round 2 while Chelsea exited in the group stage following a defeat to VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 6.

Arsenal ended the group stage as runners-up. This means that they cannot draw another second-placed side in today’s draw, ruling out the opportunity to face Juventus, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. The Gunners also cannot play their group winners FC Barcelona, something which will please them given the nature of their two group defeats to the Spaniards.

It seems likely that Jonas Eidevall’s side could face French opposition with Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon in the draw. German side VfL Wolfsburg are the only other team who could face Arsenal in the quarter-finals. As group runners-up, The Gunners will play the first leg of their quarter-final at home.

The semi-final draw will also be made. This will be done with no planned restrictions therefore Arsenal will learn of the two quarter-finalists that they may potentially face should they reach the last four.

The quarter-final first legs will take place on 22 and 23 March 2022 with the second legs being held a week later. The semi-final first legs will then take place on 23 and 24 April 2022 with the return games scheduled for the following week.

This year’s final takes place at the Juventus Stadium in Turin with a date yet to be confirmed.
