Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur has been postponed.
The Blues were set to take on Rehanne Skinner’s high-flying Spurs side at Kingsmeadow on Friday evening in the opening Barclays FA Women’s Super League match of 2022 but the game will no longer go ahead.
Chelsea confirmed the postponement this evening via an official club press release issued to FAWSL Full-Time.
It is understood that a number of positive COVID-19 tests have been returned within the Chelsea set-up after the latest round of testing. The Blues’ squad numbers have been further depleted by injuries meaning that they are unable to fulfil the fixture. The decision to call the game off was made following discussions between officials at both clubs and The Football Association.
The postponement is the second in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this weekend. West Ham United’s home fixture against Manchester United was also postponed earlier today with The Hammers’ squad having also been heavily affected by COVID-19.
The Football Association have today reintroduced the publication of weekly COVID-19 test results in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and in the FA Women’s Championship. It has been confirmed that between 28 December 2021 and 3 January 2022, there were 40 positive COVID-19 tests across the two leagues.
