Saturday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Everton at The Banks’s Stadium has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 cases.
The Villans confirmed the news this morning via a post on their official club website. It is understood that the decision has been made following discussions with The Football Association with a number of positive cases having been recorded within the Everton squad.
A new date for the rearranged fixture will be agreed between the two clubs in due course and all pre-purchased tickets will remain valid.
The postponement is the third on this weekend’s fixture card in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. A COVID-19 outbreak at West Ham United has seen their game against Manchester United postponed while Chelsea’s Friday night fixture against Tottenham Hotspur has also been called off with The Blues’ squad continuing to be hit hard by the virus and injuries.
The Football Association announced the COVID-19 test results from the latest round of testing in an official press release yesterday. It was confirmed that 40 positive cases have been recorded across the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship. The current levels are higher than the peak of positive COVID-19 cases recorded midway through last season.
