Austrian international defender Wienroither joins Arsenal

Arsenal have completed the signing of highly-rated Austrian international defender Laura Wienroither from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim according to reports on The Gunners’ official website.

The 23-year-old joins the North Londoners from German top flight club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The player has featured in all of Die Kraichgauer’s UEFA Women’s Champions League matches this season, including their two games against Arsenal in the group stage.

Wienroither has spent the last couple of years playing her football in the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga after joining TSG 1899 Hoffenheim from Austrian club SKN St. Pölten in 2018. The defender came through the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II side to go on to win her opportunity with the first team, something that she has taken with both hands.

On the international stage, Wienroither has made 12 senior appearances for the Austrian national team.

After completing her move to Arsenal, the player said “It’s an incredible feeling for me. I’m really happy to be here and to have the opportunity and I’m looking forward to being with the team.

“When I first heard about Arsenal’s interest I couldn’t believe it, and I still can’t believe it.”

Wienroither has been handed the number 26 shirt by Arsenal and she will be available for selection once international clearance has been obtained.
