Aston Villa ‘relaxed’ ahead of derby clash with Leicester City says Ward

The Aston Villa squad are feeling relaxed ahead of tomorrow’s Midlands derby at Leicester City according to head coach Carla Ward.

The Villans have lost their last four league matches and hover just one place and four points above tomorrow’s opponents Leicester City. Victory over The Foxes would go a long way towards securing Aston Villa’s top flight status for another season.

When speaking ahead of the match, Aston Villa boss Ward said that her side are not feeling any pressure and that the mood around the squad is one which is relaxed.

“We are really relaxed, we are looking forward to it, we are in good spirits and the morale is high,” Ward said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.

“We’ve got players back and the players have been absolutely top drawer this week, they were last week leading into City. I think that last week against City in the performance there was some really good stuff.

“We are really looking forward to it for sure.”

Aston Villa defeated Leicester City 2-1 at The Banks’s Stadium on the opening day of the season. The Villans were far from at their best that day and Ward said that the squad are keen to perform better at The Pirelli Stadium this weekend.

She said “Funnily enough, we were really disappointed on the back of that game, I think there were maybe a lot of nerves going into it and a lot of new players playing together. I don’t think that we really came out of the blocks, we were delighted that we won the game but ultimately, there was an aspect of that performance that we weren’t happy with.

“The girls want to go out and get the performance right, both teams have come a long way since then and I think it’ll be a really good game.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 2pm tomorrow afternoon.
