Manchester United sign experienced midfielder Moore

Manchester United have acquired the services of experienced midfielder Jade Moore from Orlando Pride on a permanent basis until the end of the 2022/2023 season according to reports on The Red Devils’ official website.

The 31-year-old has previously competed in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for Birmingham City, Notts County, and Reading before her move to Orlando Pride and loan stint at Spanish club Atlético Madrid.

Moore has made 50 appearances for England at senior level and has been included in the squads for the last four major international tournaments including in 2015 when she was part of the roster that earned the Bronze Medal at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.

Moore will be very familiar with Manchester United boss Marc Skinner having played under him during his spell coaching The Pride in the United States. Skinner was also at Birmingham City during Moore’s time with the club.

After completing her move to Manchester United, Moore said “I’m delighted to be here at a club like Manchester United, it’s a proud moment after a difficult period for me. It’s great to be back in this league too, I have a lot of experience in the WSL having played in it for around a decade and I think I can bring some of that to this team.

“I’m also looking forward to working under Marc again and getting to know my new teammates, the group here is thriving and I’m excited to be a part of it. For me, this was the right move in my career at this time and I’m going to work as hard as possible to get fit and be in contention.”

Moore is Manchester United’s second Deadline Day signing following the arrival of Republic of Ireland international centre-back Diane Caldwell and it may not be the last. The Red Devils are the in-form team in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League at the moment with six consecutive wins and clean sheets in all competitions, however, many have questioned whether they’d have the depth to sustain this form for an extended period of time, especially following the news of Millie Turner’s absence. Yet, the arrivals of two very experienced players could alleviate some of the workload as Skinner’s team make a charge in the second half of the season.
