Manchester City reach Conti Cup final with comfortable victory over Spurs

Manchester City have qualified for the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at The Academy Stadium this evening.

Jess Park, Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp got the goals for The Cityzens as they cruised to victory over a Spurs side who never really got going in the North West.

Despite failing to significantly trouble home keeper Ellie Roebuck all evening, Spurs really should have been ahead after just 13 minutes but Jess Naz fired wide after racing through on goal.

At the other end, Shaw struck an effort narrowly wide across goal before Manchester City opened the scoring with a composed finish from youngster Park. The midfielder cut in from the right before striking the ball into the far corner.

Gareth Taylor’s side doubled their lead six minutes later when Caroline Weir’s shot deflected into the path of Park who handed Shaw a tap-in. Weir then could have been on the scoresheet herself just before the break but she fired wide.

With the game as good as over, the second half lacked the intensity with Spurs struggling to really make any impact on the contest. Lucy Bronze saw an effort hit the post for the hosts but that was the closest that either side came to a goal in the early exchanges.

There was to be one goal scored in the second period and it came from Manchester City. Park capped-off an excellent night by crossing for Hemp who headed home from close range.

It really should have ended 4-0 to the hosts but Shaw spurned a great chance from close range late on. Manchester City won’t care about that missed opportunity though as they sealed their place in another FA Women’s Continental League Cup final.
