Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell says that her side are continuing to look above them in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table and are aiming to improve with every game.
The Seagulls were flying high in the first few months of the season but a run of poor results has seen them drop to eighth position with a little over a third of the season remaining.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s performances have recently improved and they have now steadied themselves. When looking ahead to this weekend’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur, Powell said that her side still have targets this season and they are very much looking upwards.
“We still want to look up,” Powell told FAWSL Full-Time. “We recognise that perhaps we haven’t had our best run, we did well against Chelsea and did relatively well against Arsenal but we still want to win games, we still want to be better than we were in the previous game, we still want to put points on the board.
“We are just trying to improve with every game that we play and ultimately, keep looking up as opposed to looking down. It has been a tough run of games, we know that, but we are excited to play again. The good thing about this league is that there is always another game and hopefully, we can get something out of the game so that we can look up.”
While Brighton & Hove Albion were hugely impressive early in the season, this weekend’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur have consistently achieved throughout the campaign and they remain the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s surprise package. Powell went on to say that a tough game awaits her side at The Hive this weekend.
She said “It’s a massive test, no game is easy but that’s the competitiveness and the spirit of the league. With the teams in and around ourselves, it is very competitive and it represents another really tough game for us at the weekend.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
