Chelsea v Manchester City – Stat Attack

One of the stellar fixtures on the Barclays FA Women’s Super League calendar takes place on Sunday when Chelsea host Manchester City.

The pair battled out the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title race until the final day of last season but both sides have catching up to do this term with Arsenal currently at the summit.

Chelsea aiming to extend unbeaten run against City

Chelsea have gone unbeaten in each of their last nine Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against Manchester City (W3 D6), alternating between a draw and a win in each of the last six games. The Blues won the reverse fixture at the Academy Stadium 4-0 back in November, will this game follow the recent theme and end level?

Blues could record first league double

Chelsea and Manchester City have met in each of the last eight seasons in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but The Blues are yet to record a league double over The Cityzens. Emma Hayes’ side have a chance to complete that first league double this weekend after their victory in the reverse fixture.

Manchester City’s record against WSL champions is not great

Manchester City have picked up just one victory from their last seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against the reigning champions (D3 L3), winning 2-1 at home to Arsenal in February 2020. City have also failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last six such matches in the competition, since a 0-0 draw at Chelsea in September 2018.

Kerr a thorn in Manchester City’s side

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has found the back of the net in each of her last three Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances against Manchester City (3 goals) – only Fran Kirby v Sunderland (5), Fran Kirby v Birmingham (4) and Eniola Aluko v Doncaster Rovers Belles (4) have scored in four or more consecutive games against a single Barclays FA Women’s Super League opponent for The Blues.
