Spurs boss Skinner adds support to those who have pushed for England call for Neville

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner has provided her support to those fans who have been calling for full-back Ashleigh Neville to be included in the England selection.

The latest Lionesses squad was announced on Tuesday with Neville again missing out as England boss Sarina Wiegman opted for a tried and tested 24-player selection.

The decision not to call-up Neville is one which has left Spurs fans disappointed. When commenting on the decision, head coach Skinner said that she trusts the England selection process and hopes that Neville is a player who is being monitored closely by the national team.

“She is definitely a player that should be being looked at,” Skinner told FAWSL Full-Time. “Certainly, from being on that side of the fence as well, I understand the processes attached to that.

“That’s something that I’d hope that is happening behind the scenes to make sure that all players that are performing consistently well are considered for all England squads.”

Commenting further on the performances of Neville in a Spurs shirt this season, Skinner highlighted just how consistent she has been, saying that she is currently in the top three full-backs in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

She said “I think that Ash has been incredibly consistent across the course of this season. When you go through the stats and the things that she has done really successfully, she ranks in the top three in the WSL in most of what you would consider to make her  a really strong contender (for England selection) from a full-back perspective.

“I trust her, I back her, I think she has been exceptional for us and I think that has shown in the way that she has played, the impact that she has in games.”

Neville has featured in all 13 of Spurs’ matches in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League, starting 12 of those games for Skinner’s side.
