PREVIEW: Manchester City v Manchester United

Manchester City and Manchester United will battle it out for local bragging rights when the pair meet at a sold out Academy Stadium on Sunday.

Manchester United currently find themselves sitting in third place in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table while Manchester City are five points behind The Red Devils in sixth. Both teams will be keen to collect three points this weekend to strengthen their hopes of European qualification and maybe even the league title.

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor has indicated that he has no new injury concerns to contend with ahead of the match but captain Steph Houghton remains sidelined with an ankle injury. The Cityzens continue to be without long term absentees Karen Bardsley, Karima Benameur Taieb, Esme Morgan and Chloe Kelly, however, Taylor did confirm that the latter is making good progress on the training pitch.

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has confirmed the continued absence of Lucy Staniforth while Millie Turner remains out. Defender Aoife Mannion will face a late fitness test with the player nursing a knee injury ahead of the meeting with her former club.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester City and Manchester United is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm on Sunday.
