Scotland confirm withdrawal of Chelsea ace Cuthbert

Scotland have this morning confirmed the withdrawal of Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert from their squad for the Pinatar Cup.

The news comes as no surprise with Cuthbert having been substituted in Chelsea’s goalless draw with Arsenal at Kingsmeadow on Friday with a suspected hamstring injury. The player left the field just before the hour mark in some discomfort and Cuthbert will now endure a period of rehabilitation.

Cuthbert is one of two Scotland withdrawals to have been announced this morning with Celtic’s Chloe Logan also having been ruled out. Hibernian’s Leah Eddie and Celtic’s Rachael Johnstone come into the squad as replacements.

In total, 15 English-based players made up head coach Pedro Martinez Losa’s initial 26-player squad for the 10-day camp. Despite Cuthbert’s withdrawal, there are still plenty of familiar faces to Barclays FA Women’s Super League fans in the Scotland squad. Amongst the plethora of English-based stars in the squad are Manchester United trio Kirsty Smith, Kirsty Hanson and Martha Thomas, Manchester City’s derby match-winner Caroline Weir and Arsenal’s Jen Beattie.

Scotland are travelling to Spain to defend their title as Pinatar Cup holders after lifting the trophy last year. The Tartan Army will contest their quarter-final tie against Wales on Wednesday.
