‘Adding goals is something that I have wanted to do’ – Chelsea’s Bright reflects on England goal

Chelsea defender Millie Bright says that she has been keen to add goalscoring to her game for club and country.

The 28-year-old was on target for England in their 1-1 draw with Canada at the Arnold Clark Cup in Middlesbrough last night. Her goal was her fourth for the Lionesses in her last seven matches. Bright had failed to score for England in her first 40 appearances for her country at senior level.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Bright said that goalscoring is something that she has been keen to add to her game for club and country.

“I broke the curse,” Bright joked when discussing her England goalscoring record. “I am just happy that I can contribute to the team and help the team in any way or form.

“Adding goals to my game is something that I have wanted to do for a long time both for club and country. I’m pleased that the hard work is paying off but most importantly, it is about contributing to the team.”

England remain unbeaten under new head coach Sarina Wiegman and Bright went on to say that the team feel as though they are in a good place right now.

She said “We are in a great place, I think that’s clear to see. The players are happy on the pitch and we are playing good football.

“There are always going to be mistakes but that’s part and parcel of football and getting to a better place and developing as a team, there are going to be mistakes. We just have to review and analyse them, stick together and move forward.

“We win together, draw together, lose together that’s our mentality but as a collective, we are in a really good place. There is lots to work on from the game but there are lots of positives to take away.”

Bright and England return to action at the Arnold Clark Cup on Sunday when they face Spain at Carrow Road in Norwich.
