Skinner wants aggressive Manchester United reaction against Leicester City

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that he wants to see an aggressive reaction from his side when they face Leicester City at the Leigh Sports Village on Saturday.

The Red Devils crashed to a 4-1 home defeat to Manchester City in the fifth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup last weekend, a result which clearly hurt the red side of the city.

When speaking ahead of this weekend’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City, Manchester United boss Skinner called on his side to react positively from the Manchester City defeat and show greater aggression.

“I want to see a reaction from the previous game against Manchester City,” Skinner said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time. “I want to see those duels, I want to see us be aggressive, I want to see us play on the front foot at the right times then be prepared to hit the spaces that they leave.

“What I would say about them is that Lydia (Bedford) has done a really good job when she has come in and she has solidified their ideas. They look more confident and I am expecting a tough game.”

Last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City was Manchester United’s second in consecutive matches against their city rivals. With fans maybe feeling a little deflated following those defeats, Skinner said that it is up to the team to lift the mood.

He said “They’ve got every right to be disappointed in the result and I think more importantly, our performance has to give them the hope that we are that team that we all know that we are going to be. You have to turn the doubt into action, we have to action. If we empty the tank against Leicester, I think we will put ourselves in a great position to win the game.

“For us, it is about not getting too high with the highs or too low with the lows, it’s about striking a balance. If you lose a game and you are in a position where you have exhausted everything, I think you can rest with the result. I am not going to waiver from my idea of us having to give our best performance against Leicester and that’s our next job at home.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester United and Leicester City kicks-off at 12pm on Saturday afternoon.
