Chelsea moved to within two points of Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal following a 3-0 victory at Everton last night.
Sam Kerr, Guro Reiten and Erin Cuthbert were all on target for The Blues as they continued their good run of form despite their off-field worries.
Emma Hayes’ side took the lead after just seven minutes when Kerr flicked on a Sophie Ingle cross and the ball found the far corner of the Everton net. The Blues then made it 2-0 when Reiten thumped a vicious shot home from the edge of the box after 15 minutes.
Kerr and Niamh Charles then went close to adding to the scoreline but neither could significantly trouble home keeper Courtney Brosnan with their headers before Cuthbert rifled in the third goal from a similar range from which Reiten had scored 15 minutes earlier.
The second half was a much quieter affair. Everton did have a couple of half-chances to reduce the deficit but Chelsea goalkeeper Zećira Mušović didn’t have a save to make as The Blue Girls’ rotten run against the South West Londoners continued.
Chelsea can move to the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table for the first time this season with victory over Tottenham Hotspur next week. As for Everton, they remain in ninth position with a five-point gap separating them from above.
