Arsenal will hope to take another step forward towards UEFA Women’s Champions League glory when they face German club VfL Wolfsburg at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
The Gunners have a poor record against German opposition in Europe but Jonas Eidevall’s side will be aiming to create a new page in their history when they take on VfL Wolfsburg, a team who have twice lifted the trophy.
Arsenal’s Brazilian defender Rafaelle Souza and their Japanese attacker Mana Iwabuchi both missed Friday’s 4-0 victory over Coventry United in the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. Head coach Eidevall was unable to confirm whether either player will be fit for Wednesday’s match when speaking in his pre-match press conference. The Gunners are not thought to have any fresh injury concerns to contend with.
VfL Wolfsburg head coach Tommy Stroot will be without injured trio Pia-Sophie Wolter, Ewa Pajor and Sveindis Jonsdottir for his side’s trip to North London. Dutch attacker Shanice van de Sanden is available after overcoming her recent injury.
