Team goals are most important for White after netting 50th goal for the Lionesses

Manchester City forward Ellen White says that England’s team achievements are more important to her than personal accolades.

The 32-year-old scored her 50th goal for her country as the Lionesses recorded a 10-0 victory against North Macedonia in Skopje last night.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, White said that hitting another personal milestone is great but it’s the bigger picture that really matters.

“I’m obviously delighted to have reached that milestone but for me, it is all about winning and the team winning,” White said.

“I know that my job is to score goals but ultimately, I want the team to win, I want the three points and for us to qualify for the World Cup, that’s the priority really.”

Looking back on her England career, White said that she feels lucky to have played with so many talented players both past and present.

She said “I’ve been very blessed to have played with so many phenomenal players with England – Kelly Smith, Rachel Yankey, Sue Smith, Fara Williams, I could name everyone really. I am very lucky to currently be surrounded by supremely talented individuals and collectively as a team, I feel very lucky.

“I just feel lucky over my career that I have been on the pitch with those talents and I am currently in a squad where I look around and I am amazed at being surrounded by phenomenal talent. I feel very lucky and hopefully, we can keep building, developing those relationships and peak at the right time for the EUROs.”

White’s goal last night moves her to within three goals of Wayne Rooney’s all-time record for the England national team.
