Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that her side must again look to cause problems and ask questions of Chelsea on Thursday.
The two sides meet at Kingsmeadow in their latest Barclays FA Women’s Super League match just five days after contesting the reverse fixture at The Hive.
Spurs gave Chelsea an almighty shock on Sunday after taking the lead at The Hive before The Blues’ quality shone through in the second half as they went on to win the game 3-1. Chelsea had to play almost an hour of that match after goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger was sent-off.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the second game, Spurs boss Skinner said that her side must again look to cause problems and ask questions of Chelsea with the aim of putting in a 90-minute performance.
“We go into every game wanting to get a result and we want to make sure that happens,” Skinner said. “When you take the first half (on Sunday) into consideration, we created a lot of problems and asked a lot of questions and ended up on the right side of that by half-time.
“We’ve got to make sure that we do the same thing on Thursday but we know that we can put in solid performances, we just need to make sure that we do that for 90 minutes and make life as tough as possible for them.”
Discussing areas for improvement in the second game, Skinner said that her side must be better on the ball and with their decision-making.
She said “I just think we need to be better on the ball. In the second half, it was us causing the problems for us based on the quality of our possession or some of the decisions that we made. When we were more effective at that in the first half, we obviously created an opportunity to get in-behind that led to their goalkeeper being sent-off and there were crosses that went into the box which led to a number of set plays. We have just got to capitalise on those moments.
“It is just about being a bit smarter with some of the decisions that we make whilst also doing the things that we do well which are working diligently out of possession and making life really difficult for any team to break us down. We know that we will do that every game so we just need to do the on the ball stuff better and that should then give us more opportunities to get forward to create more chances.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 7.45pm on Thursday evening.
