‘We’re aware of what they do well’ – Manchester City boss Taylor previews Brighton

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that his side are well aware of Brighton & Hove Albion’s threats ahead of the two sides’ meeting at The Academy Stadium tomorrow.

The Cityzens won the reverse fixture 6-0 back in January with all six goals being scored in the second half of the match.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the latest meeting, Manchester City boss Taylor said that he knows exactly what Brighton & Hove Albion do well and he expects no different this weekend.

“They always try and engage and put pressure on opponents,” Taylor said. “I thought the way that they managed the game in January….at half-time it was nil-nil and it was only in the second half that it really opened up. They are aware of what they do well and we’re aware of it as well, we need to be prepared for that.

“In terms of Hope (Powell) changing her mindset and the way that she wants to play, I wouldn’t see any real change in that, particularly with the Birmingham game (last weekend). It was a setback and we have got to anticipate that there will potentially be a different mindset when you have a setback like that.”

Manchester City were handed a boost in their quest for third when Manchester United dropped points at Aston Villa last weekend. Taylor went on to say that his side’s focus remains on what they need to do between now and the end of the season.

He said “I always felt that we were in a decent position anyway, we had to take care of our business and I always felt that there would be a little bit of wiggle room here or there, who’s to say that we won’t drop anything in the last three games.

“Teams are really competing, Villa made it very difficult for United and they rightly earned their point. We just have to control what we can control. As much as we probably had an eye on that game and it was a nice surprise, it hasn’t really changed our objectives and what we need to do in these next few games, attack them game-by-game.”

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 11.30am on Saturday morning.
