PREVIEW: Birmingham City v Chelsea

Birmingham City and Chelsea will battle it out for the right to claim three points for very different reasons when the pair meet at St Andrew’s on Sunday evening.

The hosts are currently four points adrift at the bottom of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table while Chelsea are four points clear at the summit and are closing in on another league title.

Birmingham City’s interim head coach Darren Carter has confirmed that many of the club’s injury problems have now cleared up. Defender Cecilie Sandvej and forward Lucy Whipp are back in training and could be involved this weekend while Sarah Ewens is in contention for a start after returning to the bench against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. Arabella Suttie and Lily Simkin are not expected to be part of the squad due to ongoing recoveries.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has confirmed that there are no new injury concerns in her squad following Thursday evening’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow. Fran Kirby remains the main absentee due to illness while Ji So-yun may be a doubt. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger remains suspended.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Birmingham City and Chelsea kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening.
