Watford and Coventry United go into battle for the right to remain in the FA Women’s Championship with the pair set to contest a final day blockbuster at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts are two points ahead of bottom of the table side Coventry United but The Red and Greens will believe in themselves to grab the three points along with the ultimate prize of survival, especially after virtually wiping out a 10-point deduction issued to the club in January following their previous owners’ decision to apply for liquidation.
Watford go into the final match of the season having taken one point from their last three games. Their last victory saw them defeat high-flying London City Lionesses 1-0 at Vicarage Road and that result will give them some confidence ahead of what promises to be a nervy final day.
In terms of team news, Watford remain without long term absentees Ylenia Priest, Leanne Bell and Emma Beckett. Joint-head coaches Laura Dyer and Armand Kavaja could opt to make a couple of changes to the starting XI following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace with veteran midfielder Gemma Davison being one player who is pushing for a start.
Coventry United manager Jay Bradford could opt to keep faith with the side which kept their nerve to defeat Lewes 1-0 at the Butts Park Arena last weekend. Midfielders Anna Wilcox and Phoebe Warner remain sidelined as they continue to recover from long term injuries. There has been no indication that The Red and Greens are carrying any fresh injuries.
The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Watford and Coventry United kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
