Defender Helen Seed has signed her first professional terms with Blackburn Rovers according to reports on the Lancashire club’s official website.
The 26-year-old returned to Rovers last summer, seven years after leaving the club to take up a scholarship in the United States. The player combined football with her studies at Carson-Newman University in Tennessee before later returning to Europe to play for Swiss club FF Lugano 1976, AFC Fylde and Cypriot side Apollon.
Upon her return to Rovers, Seed has made 22 appearances for the club, 16 of those outings coming in this season’s FA Women’s Championship. The player has impressed manager Gemma Donnelly enough to now be offered a professional deal with the club.
Seed is the third player to agree professional terms with Blackburn Rovers so far this summer. Goalkeeper Alex Brooks has signed on for next season, as has Seed’s defensive colleague Hannah Coan. The trio will hope to help the club improve their final league position for the 2021/2022 season of tenth.
The 2022/2023 campaign will see Rovers compete in the FA Women’s Championship for the fourth consecutive year. The Lancashire club have finished third from bottom in each of the last two seasons and Rovers will be hoping that growing their professional environment will help propel them up the table in the coming years.
