Sarri and Hourihan to leave Birmingham City, four players could sign new deals

Birmingham City have announced the news that attacker Veatriki Sarri and goalkeeper Marie Hourihan will leave the club when their contracts expire this summer.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release issued this morning.

Blues’ interim head coach Darren Carter wanted to retain the services of Greek international Sarri but the player has opted against signing a contract extension. Goalkeeper Hourihan is leaving the club at the end of her second spell in the Midlands.

Birmingham City are planning to retain the vast majority of their current squad for their planned FA Women’s Championship title push next season. The club have offered new deals to Jamie Finn, Emily Whelan, Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Christie Murray while they have taken up a one-year option on Jade Pennock’s contract. Cecilie Sandvej, Harriet Scott, Louise Quinn, Lily Simkin, Sarah Ewens, Libby Smith, Lucy Quinn and Gemma Lawley are all under contract for next season. The immediate future of forward Lucy Whipp is not currently known with talks still ongoing.

After spending 11 years in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Birmingham City were relegated from the top flight earlier this month on the back of a difficult campaign for the club. Interim boss Carter plans to stay with the Blues next season to help them try to bounce back at the first attempt.
