Departing Crystal Palace midfielder Sophie McLean has completed a move to FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Billericay Town.
The 26-year-old was one of eight out of contract players to leave The Eagles at the end of the FA Women’s Championship season.
It has today been confirmed that McLean has secured a move to FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Billericay Town. The midfielder becomes the first player to join the Essex club since they won the FA Women’s National League South East Division title.
The signing of McLean is a real coup for Ricay with the player boasting close to 100 FA Women’s Championship appearances in spells with Tottenham Hotspur, London Bees and latest club Crystal Palace. The midfielder featured in 20 of The Eagles’ 22 matches in the second tier this season, helping the club to achieve their highest-ever finish of fourth place.
McLean will now hope to help Billericay Town make the successful transition to third tier football. She joins a club which accrued the highest final points tally in the history of the FA Women’s National League South East Division in 2021/2022.
McLean is the first of Crystal Palace’s departing players to find a new club.
