Rumoured Arsenal target Geyse completes FC Barcelona move

Rumoured Arsenal target Geyse Ferreira has today completed a move to Spanish champions FC Barcelona.

Barca announced the capture of the 24-year-old via their official club website this morning. Geyse has signed a two-year deal with the Catalan club and becomes Barcelona’s second signing in the last 24 hours with Manchester City full-back Lucy Bronze also moving to the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

Geyse’s move to Barcelona has ended speculation of a potential transfer to Arsenal this summer. Those rumours had been gathering pace for a few weeks, although it must be said that the links were not as strong after Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema committed her immediate future to the North London Club. The Gunners could yet opt to bolster their forward line in the current transfer window as they look to end a three-year trophy drought.

Brazilian international Geyse has joined Barcelona from their league rivals Madrid CFF. The forward netted 36 league goals for the San Sebastián de los Reyes-based club with 20 of those strikes coming this season as she topped the Primera Iberdrola’s goalscoring charts alongside Asisat Oshoala.

Barcelona were defeated 3-1 by Lyon in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League final but there are signs in this summer’s transfer window that the club are determined to claw back their status as European champions as soon as possible.
