England’s preparations for this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO step up again this evening when the Lionesses face The Netherlands in an international friendly at Elland Road in Leeds.
Sarina Wiegman’s side won the first of three warm-up fixtures 3-0 against Belgium in Wolverhampton last Thursday and the focus now turns to a match against the current UEFA Women’s EURO champions.
England boss Wiegman spent seven years working with The Netherlands women’s national team. Four of those years were spent as the head coach and she guided The Orange Lionesses to a first UEFA Women’s EURO title success along with a Silver Medal at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
Wiegman and England will be without forward Ellen White for tonight’s match with the player having tested positive for COVID-19. The virus has not spread to any other members of the squad at this stage. Alex Greenwood could regain her starting place in the side while Wiegman did not comment on who would start the game in the number nine position when questioned in her pre-match press conference.
Midfielder Sherida Spitse will captain The Netherlands at Elland Road as she wins her 200th senior international cap. Lieke Martens, Danielle van de Donk and Damaris Egurrola are all fit following injuries, however, head coach Mark Parsons will carefully manage their game time in the lead up to the EUROs.
The international friendly between England and The Netherlands kicks-off at 8pm. Tickets are available to purchase from the Leeds United ticket office.
