Aston Villa complete the signing of former Everton forward Magill

Aston Villa have completed the signing of former Everton forward Simone Magill on a free transfer according to reports on The Villans’ official club website.

Villa boss Carla Ward was targeting at least one proven goalscorer in this summer’s transfer window and she has acquired the services of a player who is experienced both in the Barclays Women’s Super League and at senior international level.

Magill has signed an initial two-year deal with Villa. She moves to the Midlands club a little over 24 hours before her native Northern Ireland begin their UEFA Women’s EURO campaign against Norway in Southampton.

The forward spent almost a decade with former club Everton before leaving the Merseysiders upon the expiry of her contract this summer. Magill won the 2017 FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series with The Blue Girls while she was twice named their Player of the Year.

After securing Magill’s services, Aston Villa head coach Ward said “Simone is someone we have tried to bring in during the last two transfer windows, so to get it over the line is something I’m delighted with.”

“She’s a front-footed player with an eye for goal and someone I feel will fit in brilliantly to what we’re trying to do.”

Magill is Aston Villa’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
