Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Katie Startup has signed a new one-year contract with the Barclays Women’s Super League club.
The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.
Last season was a breakthrough year for Startup at Brighton & Hove Albion. Despite being an understudy for first choice goalkeeper Megan Walsh, Startup proved that she could be relied on when called upon. The player made two appearances for the Sussex club in the Barclays Women’s Super League, conceding just one goal. Startup will be hoping to increase her claims for the Brighton & Hove Albion jersey after signing her new deal.
After securing the services of Startup for another year, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Hope Powell said “Katie returned from her loan last season and proved that she can push Megan Walsh all the way for a place in the team.
“She provides exactly the sort of competition we want, so we’re really pleased that she will be with us going forward.
“Katie is a good character and works hard – I am looking forward to working with her again this season.”
Startup becomes the first member of Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2021/2022 squad to sign a new deal with the club during the close season.
