Leicester City have completed the signing of former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Aileen Whelan on a free transfer according to reports on The Foxes’ official club website.
The 30-year-old joins Lydia Bedford’s side after leaving her former club Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of last season.
Whelan brings a wealth of top flight experience with her to the East Midlands. The player has featured in every Barclays Women’s Super League match for her former club in the last two seasons. Whelan represented Brighton & Hove Albion on more than 100 occasions in all competitions in her overall time with the club.
After completing her move to Leicester City, Whelan said “Hopefully I can bring some experience in and help the team get some results. My aim is to get on the scoresheet as much as possible and help LCFC Women finish higher up the table.
“I know a few of the girls already from playing with them in other teams. It’s nice knowing that when I come in for pre-season with the team, I have relationships with some of them already.”
Stafford-born Whelan is no stranger to the East Midlands. The midfielder has previously represented Nottingham Forest and Notts County in the early days of her career before spells with Everton and latest club Brighton & Hove Albion.
