Sheffield United complete signing of former Aston Villa forward Haywood

Sheffield United have completed the signing of former Aston Villa forward Sophie Haywood on a free transfer.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades a short time ago.

The 24-year-old spent four seasons with former club Villa prior to her release by the club earlier this summer. Haywood made 40 league appearances for The Villans in her time with the club. She helped The Claret and Blues to the Barclays Women’s Championship title in 2019/2020. Haywood spent the first half of last season sidelined with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury but she proved her fitness in the second half of the campaign.

After completing her move to Bramall Lane, Haywood said “I’m really chuffed. I’m just happy to be here and excited to get the season going and to be part of such a good club.

“I was out for about a year, but I’ve been back fit from around February but didn’t have a chance to get back playing and enjoy my football and that was one of the reasons I came here.”

Haywood becomes Sheffield United head coach Neil Redfearn’s fourth signing of the summer following the recent additions of Maria Francis-Jones, Rachel Brown and Sophie Barker.
