Aston Villa goalkeeper Sian Rogers has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic on loan ahead of the upcoming season.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news this morning via an official club press release from The Villans.
Rogers joined Aston Villa in 2017 after spending her youth with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Birmingham City and Arsenal. The 24-year-old has gone on to make 67 appearances for The Villans in all competitions with four of those outings coming in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The keeper was a member of the Aston Villa team which won the Barclays Women’s Championship title in 2019/2020. Rogers played 13 league games for the Midlands club prior to the campaign being curtailed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
With Rogers entering the middle of her career, it is important that she is playing regular first team football and the loan move to Charlton Athletic may now allow her to do that. Rogers joins a Charlton Athletic side who finished in the top half of the Barclays Women’s Championship last season, although bigger and better things are now expected from Karen Hills’ full-time professional side.
Rogers could make her competitive debut for Charlton Athletic against Southampton on the opening day of the 2022/2023 season.
